Bedfordshire County Championships 2022

Inspire Luton Sports Village

January and February saw the return of Bedfordshire County Championship after 2021 was cancelled due to the pandemic. Dunstable's small but mighty team was plagued with Covid but soldiered on. After the impact of Covid-19 and the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus Pandemic the BCC event has been unable to run for the last two years – for many of our swimmers this was their debut at Counties. Unfortunately this years event went ahead without spectators but that didn’t deter our swimmers, they swam to an incredibly high standard.

We got off to a great start with our only long distance swimmer Davis (J) taking silver in both the 1500m and 800m freestyle.  Lots more medals followed Medlicott (J) taking silver in the 15 years old 100m backstroke, King gold and Kefford bronze in the 18 years and over 100m backstroke.  Brazel-Hawkins (N) took bronze in 10/11year age group for 50m breaststroke along with Bradshaw taking silver in the 15 years age group. Mathias took bronze in the 15 year old 100m butterfly, along with King taking silver in the 18 and over.   Medlicott (J) in the 200m IM took gold.

The 14/15 200m medley relay team Mathias, Davis, Medlicott and Popow took bronze and the senior girls Collins, Grice, King and Carrick a silver.

Davis (J) took another gold in 200m butterfly along with a silver in 400m freestyle.

Another bronze medal to the senior girls 400m medley relay team King, Grice, Davis (M) and Kefford.  Wow, this was just weekend one.....

Weekend two saw lots more medals and pb’s starting with Mathis take bronze in 200m freestyle along with Carrick taking silver. We saw a Dunstable 1,2,3 for Medlicott, Popow and Davis in the 15 years 50m butterfly, Davis (M) also taking bronze.  Mathias took bronze in the mens 18 and over 100m butterfly.  Medlicott took another silver in 50m backstroke and Davis (M) took silver.   King took another gold along with Kefford taking bronze in 18 and over 50m backstroke.  Brazel-Hawkins took bronze in 100m breaststroke. Medlicott took another gold in 200m backstroke along with a bronze in the 50m freestyle, King also taking gold and Collins bronze in 18 and over age group which concluded Bedfordshire County Championships for another year.

The team had lots more amazing swimmers taking part over the two weekends with lots of debuts, personal bests and all round fantastic swimming.  Our small but mighty team did us proud as they normally do.  Some great swims from Shaw (A), Vassallo-Todaro, Flitton (A), Cooke (A), Medlicott (C), Flitton (C), Stachura, Armstrong, Swan (H), Shaw (J), Fowler, Swan (L), Humphrey, Cooper, Alderson, Butler and Brazel-Hawkins (T) and also our incredible relay teams!

Looking forward to see what our swimmers can do in 2023!
